Mendenhall, MS started out with the name Edna, after the wife of developer Phillip Drake, with Edna being already in existence, the towns name was changed to Mendenhall, to honor Thomas Mendenhall. Mendenhall is the county seat to Simpson County. The county courthouse was built in 1907 and is located in the town square. B&B Meat Market and Deli was voted for the best burger in Mississippi in 2019. The Star Theatre reopened in 1979 but soon closed due to the rise of video arcades and cable TV. The theatre was repainted and used as a location for the film “My Dog Skip” that was based on a true story. The volunteer fire department in Mendenhall is one of the highest trained departments in the area. Simpson Legion Lake is one of the most popular lakes in Mississippi; the 76-acre lake has ample amounts of bank-fishing opportunities. The lake was recently closed to make repairs to the dam and to renovate the aging water-control structures.
