Kiln, Mississippi (pronounced Kill) is known for its agriculture of blueberries and strawberries and also being home to former resident Brett Favre. The famous NFL quarterback is honored by a football shaped welcome sign seen when you enter the town. The first known inhabitants of this area were Choctaw and Muskhogean Indians. The Indians resided along the bank of the Jourdan River, allowing them easy access to hunting and fishing. This river got its name from one of the earliest settlers, Noel Jourdan. Noel later became the first representative of Hancock County in the Mississippi Legislature and served as a delegate to the Mississippi Constitutional Convention of 1817.
The town has seen a large 62% increase in population towards the end of the 20th century. The source of this growth is connected to the growth of the gambling and casino industry. At the end of 1990, Hancock County was the first to approve dockside gambling. This sparked the beginning of many casinos near Kiln and as a result, it drew people into the town, increasing the population.

A water supply line failed at my home. The exercise /reading room flooded. The carpeting was destroyed and the sheetrock was damaged. SERVPRO of Bay St. Louis/Diamondhead came quickly and removed the water and damaged material. Then, they treated for mold. They were professional and pleasant. They kept us informed during the process. Best experience possible!
