Before the railroads came in 1858, the historic Foster-Smith Log Cabin was built in 1825 and is now a popular spot to visit and attend events inside the Downtown Historic District. There are many other historic aspects of Brookhaven, like the Historic Whitworth College, which is now the Mississippi School of the Arts. The school is a Mississippi Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places. When passing the school, you will see art students crossing the street to watch movies at the Regal Westbrook Cinema.
For history and military enthusiasts, the Military Memorial Museum located in the Old Train Depot. Another attraction is the popular Brookhaven Little Theater, which is one of the oldest continually running community theatre in the state of Mississippi. Along with local historic places around the town, there are many local businesses that we love to support. Janey's Pastry Shop is a classic favorite around here, which has a nostalgic 50's atmosphere with tasty treats. Magnolia Blues, Betty's Eat Shop, Tortilla Soup are all along the same strip in the downtown area. For locally owned businesses, locals shop Engravables, Bedazzled and Castles for trendy outfits. Everyone comes together through events like the annual Ole Brook Festival, live performances at Railroad Park Stage, Girl's Night Out, car shows, high school games, Downtown Jazzed UP, Christmas Open Houses and parades. The community bonds here are strong, even with it's youth
