Shelbina is a bustling community of 1,613 citizens (as of the 2020 census), situated on the rolling prairie of northeast Missouri in Shelby County. A newspaper article of the 1880s called Shelbina the “Queen City of the Prairie”. Shelbina was founded as a result of the building of the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad. The railroad association had been formed in 1846 at the office of John Clemens, Hannibal, (Mr. Clemens’ son Samuel is better known as Mark Twain). It took until 1857 for the rail line to reach Shelby County. The city was platted August 11, 1857, on the level prairie ground on the south edge of the county to serve as a railhead for the established communities of Shelbyville, Walkersville, Oak Dale, and Paris.
The name "Shelbina" is derived from Shelby County. A post office called Shelbina has been in operation since 1858.
The Benjamin House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

- Sam Walton, founder of Walmart
- Duke Cunningham, US Navy fighter pilot during the Vietnam War, former U.S. Congressman (R) from California, and jailed for corruption, i.e. taking bribes for his vote, and selling his political influence.

When you came up from Hannibal and made a decision, how to repair the damages and put it all back together like it was, with the replacement of materials and carpet and with the estimate cost replacement was figured right down to the amount. We had a fire in April of this year. I am a semi disabled senior citizen caring for my wheelchair bound 92 year old mother, and had to handle this by myself. Every time I needed SERVPRO, they stepped up above and beyond. Sometimes they got called away on someone who's business or home was in the process of flooding and it was an emergency, our fire was a done deal, we were cleaning up the mess.
I got a letter from the City of Monroe today with a building code violation as I am still in the process of doing the inventory. A formal complaint was made against me and I had to get some windows and doors boarded up. I called SERVPRO and they were there in a couple of hours and did what needed to be done. Since I had used them right after the fire, they still had authorizations from the insurance company and were able to just come and help me out again. Thank you Les, and Dave was who I worked with today.
