History of Imperial
The history of Imperial, Missouri dates back to before European explorers and settlers arrived. The area was sparsely populated until the late 1700s when pioneers from Virginia started to move westward. It was established by the Missouri State Legislature on February 1, 1851 as "Imperial Bottoms". The name was changed to "Imperial" on March 28, 1857. The first settlers were farmers who were drawn to the fertile soil and abundant water supply. They opened stores to provide goods needed by their fellow settlers, and soon realized that they needed a post office nearby.
