Eureka, Missouri is a charming municipality located in the southwestern area of St. Louis County. Eureka originated in 1853 when the Missouri Pacific Railroad opened. The first housing community that was built in this area wasn’t until 1858. This area began to grow quickly and has continued to blossom over the years. Through this growth period, Eureka has built up their school system to support the growing families to include three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Eureka is home to many local eateries, parades, parks, and one of the most popular attractions, Six Flags.
Through the years Eureka has endured many disasters including floods, tornadoes and some large fires. According to Eureka City Hall, such disasters led to the formation of the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department in 1945, when they constructed a firehouse and acquired equipment. In 1970, the Eureka Fire Protection District was formed and now serves a 79 square mile area. In 1972, the first ambulance was acquired by the District to serve the area that was made possible by citizen and community organizational efforts.
