Incorporated in 1986 and located conveniently just 14 miles southwest of Springfield, between Billings and Nixa on Highway 14 and just south of Republic on P Highway.  Clever got its name in a unique way, when the first choice of name was rejected by the Federal government, locals leaders surveyed a few residents and one suggested “Clever” because the young community’s residents were friendly and wise.  Our city has that small town charm and feel but is just minutes away from larger metropolitan areas.
