The city of Billings is located 18 miles southwest of Springfield, Missouri on Highway 60, it is in the extreme western panhandle of Christian County.   The city was platted in 1872 and named after Frisco railroad baron Frederick H. Billings, who helped the town build a church by donating $1,000 in exchange for naming rights.  Farming is the main industry in Billings, the Bank of Billings, established in 1889 is still a prominent landmark in the city and has done business with many farmers in the area since then. Billings has two schools, Billings Elementary and Billings Jr./Sr. High School. In 2018 nationally famed artist and Billings native, Susan Sommer-Luarca completed a mural showcasing the towns history on the side of the current city Hall Building.
