Shepard is a village in the southern portion of Isabella County and has a population of around 1500 residents. Shepard is most notably known for the Shepard Maple Syrup Festival. The festival is typically held at the end of April every year and brings 1000's of residents and tourists to its downtown area. The annual festival started in 1959 and contains arts, crafts, music, food and also has a parade that crowns the Maple Syrup Queen. The maple syrup makers will produce around 2000 gallons every year in the Shepard area alone. Shepard is a small town made up of a small downtown and a rural farming community. The area is known for its vast forests made up of mainly Maple trees that produce the maple syrup that the town is popular for. Shepard is also home to the Shepard High School Blue Jays, a small school but rats very high in test scores.
