Casco is a city in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. It is the principal city of the Casco census-designated place. The population was 3,238 at the 2010 census. The city includes both commercial and residential areas on either side (east and west) of the Fore River as it passes through coastal Casco Bay into the Atlantic Ocean. History of Casco
Casco was a settlement that became incorporated as a town in 1802. The name Casco comes from the language of natives and references the area’s location alongside the Casco Bay. The first settlers were refugees from the Acadian region, who moved to Casco after they were banished from Nova Scotia by the British. It has been a lumber town since its early days, but its current economy is more diverse with industries that include fishing, shipbuilding and tourism.
