Cape Elizabeth is located in Cumberland County, Maine, about 9 miles south of Portland. Maine. The town is on the southern coast of Casco Bay and borders Scarborough to the northwest and Falmouth to the southeast. The oldest village on Cape Elizabeth is South Freeport. One of the newer villages is Somesville which was founded as a real estate development in the 1930s by Walter Zansor, a former mayor of Portland who owned much of the land along Route 73. Cape Elizabeth is home to Camp Ellis, which was purchased by the National Park Service in 1937 and turned into a recreation area.
