Savage, Maryland is a former mill town. The historic Savage Mill Village is located in the great area of Howard County. Savage was first settled around 1650. The milling industry started in Maryland in the 18th century and flourished until the 19th century. Savage has been home to the mill industry for many years, producing many types of products. The original Mill was prominent in the cotton industry, producing for clipper ship sails as well as many other textiles. The mill even once had an iron foundry that made many kinds of machinery as well as army uniforms, field tents and vehicle covers.
Savage Mill established itself as a major permanent marketplace for decades. In these days, the Savage Mill Manor House, which is located down the street from the original mill, has been completely renovated. Many people enjoy hosting parties, weddings, and special events there. This city is rich in history and innovation.
