Elkridge, Maryland is located within Maryland’s very own Howard County. This wonderful city was founded early in the 18th century. Elkridge is very rich in history and has many historical buildings still preserved to tour. Many of the early industries in the area come from basket weaving, paper, cotton grist milling, pig-iron forging, as well as involvement with the B&O railroad. Elkridge is the oldest settlement in Howard County lying on the banks of the Patapsco River. The city is home to many historical churches including Melville church, whose original building was the first Methodist Church in 1772; to mention one of the historical churches that reside in Elkridge. Elkridge now has a very dense, suburban feel. There are some great parks in the area and wonderful shopping centers.
It may be hard to believe today that the Patapsco River was once a deep-water port that ships could navigate down for trade. This deforestation has also created flooding in the area of Elkridge to this day.
