Westfield Cleanup and Restoration

Westfield is city located in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts and Hampden County and is commonly referred to as the "Whip City".  Westfield was the largest manufacturer of whips; the first whips were originally made out of a leather lash and a hickory stick in 1808. The Pocomtuc had originally inhabited the area until 1658 when the land was purchased by the Europeans and had started to settled in Westfield in the 1660's.

In 1910 Western Massachusetts Hospital opened in an effort to protect Westfield from Tuberculosis outbreaks. The hospital is still open and currently treats patients with neurological disorders, behavioral problems, Alzheimer's as well as terminal illnesses. 

Columbia Manufacturer Inc. formerly known as the Columbia Bike Company continues to produced Columbia bikes as well as furniture for schools. Known as the first Americas Bicycle and founded in 1877 by Colonel Albert Pope.

In 1948, the founder of Stanley Park, Frank Stanley Beveridge received 6 black squirrels as a gift from his sales managers that originally came from Michigan. Today, the black squirrel population continues to grow in Westfield and some of the surrounding towns. 

Did you know that they almost named the town "Streamfield"? This was considered as the town was between the Little Rivet and Westfield River. 

Westfield is the home of Westfield State University
