History of Rehoboth
Rehoboth, Massachusetts is a beautiful community located in Bristol County just a short drive from Rhode Island and near New Bedford, Massachusetts. Located between Seekonk, Massachusetts and Middleboro, Massachusetts, Rehoboth, MA is a scenic coastal community with several charming towns all within easy driving distance of each other. There are many scenic beaches in the area for those who enjoy water sports and swimming. Aside from that, there isn't much else to do but relax and soak up the sun. Although it's small, it's a good place to raise a family due to low crime rates in the area.
The history of Rehoboth, Massachusetts began in 1650 when the people from Plymouth Colony claimed the land as their own and built a fort on top of what would become Rehoboth Beach. The colony of Plymouth claimed this territory for about five years until it was conquered by Massachusetts Bay Colony. In 1887, Rehoboth became a town with its current borders. Later a tribe of Native Americans called Wampanoags settled in the town. The Wampanoags lived nearby to trade with Europeans. The town's streets are laid out in an unusual pattern with no straight roads and no parallel streets between the major highways (Route 118 and Route 6).
