History of Raynham

Raynham, Massachusetts is a well known city in Massachusetts and throughout the United States. It is located in Plymouth County and has a population of around 30,000 people. Raynham, Massachusetts was established in 1644 as a part of Plymouth Colony. This region was originally known by the Wampanoag Nation as Seconndicut. In 1644, it became part of the Plymouth Colony and is named after the Town of Raynham, England. In 1692, this town had its own charter and was renamed Raynham. Early settlers came to this region to farm and were later joined by skilled craftsmen.  It was established as a town in 1717 upon the petition from its citizens to become an official county town in hopes of gaining more autonomy and self-government. Through years of development and progress, Raynham remains one of the most populous towns in the commonwealth.
