Dracut Cleanup and Restoration

Dracut is a town of just over 32,000  is situated about 35 minutes north of Boston and boarders Southern New Hampshire. In 1653, the community was part of the Wamiset Praying Town, one of the preserves set aside by the colonists for Christianized Indians. Surprisingly, Dracut is one of the biggest towns in the state that is still governed using Open Town meeting, whereby all registered voters are entitled to meet at stipulated times to transact the town’s affairs.  Like many New England towns, Dracut deals with warm humid summers and freezing winters, leaving water, fire and mold restoration needs present all year long!

Dracut is a pleasant residential community that is committed to preserving its agricultural, historical, and open space heritage. The town has several large ponds, bogs and swamps and numerous brooks. These waterways were very important in its early economy, with my residents relying on fishing and milling of lumber, which led to its 19th century industries of paper making and cotton textile manufacturing ran by Irish and French Canadian immigrants. There has been intense modern development in Dracut with suburban residential pressures from neighboring cities. However, some rural landscapes remain intact, as do some historic houses. One of the better known is the 290-year-old Colburn/Cutter House, with its massive beams, huge center chimney and fireplaces. The building, dating back from about 1717, has served as the site of the annual Dracut Craft Fair. In addition, Dracut holds an annual Old Home Day every September starting in 2001. 

Dracut’s residents are well regarded for their volunteerism and their willingness to help both individuals and families in distress.  The Town is situated so as to provide ready access to the Lowell and Boston metropolitan areas to the south, the Atlantic seacoast to the east and the mountains and lakes of New England to the north. There is an abundance of recreational, healthcare and educational institutions all within an hour or less drive.
