Both men were instrumental in making Dighton what it is today, even though they came centuries after the original Native Americans discovered the area that would become the town. The Indigenous people discovered its fertile soil, clear rivers and abundance of fish in abundance. Early settlers from England were soon lured to Dighton, Massachusetts by this natural beauty. Today, Dighton commemorates its past with annual festivals like Oysterfest and Vinalhaven Day.
