Shreveport, LA 

Located in Northwest Louisiana, Shreveport was founded by the Shreve Town Company in 1836. After The Red River was made navigable by Henry Miller Shreve, the town was created to establish a meeting point of the Brown Bricks and the Texas Trail. In 1839, the town was incorporated as Shreveport into Caddo Parish. Soon after, Shreveport became a hub for steamboat commerce, exporting crops from Caddo Parish plantations.  

After oil was discovered in Louisiana in the 20th century, Shreveport grew and became a headquarters for the oil industry, containing key locations for Standard Oil of Louisiana and United Gas Corporation.  

Today, Shreveport stretches across 123 square miles of land and has a population of nearly 200,000 people. The city remains an important center for education, culture, and industry within the Ark-La-Tex region. Due to its proximity to other major cities and its relative position to each, Shreveport is a major transportation hub to this region. Additionally, it is home to five universities, including Louisiana Baptist University and LSA Shreveport, Barksdale Air Force Base, and corporate offices and headquarters for several large companies such as JPMorgan Chase and Walmart.  

Shreveport offers a diverse set of experiences, you can enjoy historical sites in the Shreveport Historic District, take in art and enjoy a walk at R. W. Norton Art Gallery, or take a trip under the sea at Shreveport Aquarium. No matter your interests, this city has something for you.  

Recently, rapper and entertainment industry mogul, 50 Cent opened a recording studio, G-Unit Studios in Shreveport. He believes this activity will help foster creativity and innovation in the city and help further Shreveport’s development and growth.
