Running along the southern bank of the Ohio River, around 2,500 residents call Raceland, Kentucky home. The city was incorporated in 1915 as Chinville. In the early years, the city was known for world class thoroughbred racing establishment, Raceland. In the years following the incorporation of the city, the community petitioned to change the name of the city to Raceland, in honor of the race track.

After five years in operation, the thoroughbred track closed operations but the city made a quick pivot. A rail car company opened their doors the same year and provided the community with many employment opportunities. The residents of Raceland are resilient and actually established the motto, “From the race horse, to the iron horse, always moving forward”, in honor of their residents willing to adapt.
