The town of Pleasureville occupies land originally settled in 1784 as a part of a Dutch Huguenot colony. About a mile and half northwest of what is now the intersection of Castle Highway and Kentucky Highway, the Dutch erected their fort and named it after the colony's land manager, Abraham Banta. They originally names it, "Bantatown" but in 1828 the name was changed to Pleasureville. It is said that the name changed based on the disposition of the people that lived there. The old Pleasureville Hotel still stands in the downtown area as does the old depot. But, the once thriving downtown is mostly vacant now.
