Junction City is located very close to Danville, Kentucky and is known for its many changing names. It began when the Louisville and Nashville Railroad reached the area. It was originally known as "Goresburg" for the proprietors of the Gore Hotel. It also named "Shelby City" for Kentucky's first governor, Isaac Shelby. Shelby is buried and lived nearby. It was also called "South Danville" for it's close proximity to Danville. But ultimately, it kept the name "Junction City" when the Cincinnati Southern Railway reached the town in 1882. One famous landmark the small town has, is a haunted house called the Hustonville Haunted House.
