History of Stanley, Kansas
The geography of Stilwell includes rolling hills along with flatlands that run through the center of the town. The town was founded in 1886 by Michael O'Keefe, J. Larkin, W. A. Kelly, and A. J. Norman who established the town as Mt. Auburn, which later became Stilwell. This led to an influx of other settlers who also sought fortune through mining and farming during this time period which resulted in the founding of several businesses including a bank and an insurance company as well as some churches.
