Owensville, Indiana was first established in 1817 by a man named Phillip Briscoe. Owensville was first incorporated in 1881. As of 2010 the census stated the population of the city was 1,284 people. The community does house the Owensville Community school for students kindergarten through eighth grade. The city also houses a Carnegie Public Library. There are many churches including Dayspring Community Church, Owensville Christian Church, and Owensville United Methodist Church. Many family-owned businesses are located in Owensville. Of all the businesses in this community, only three of them are not family-owned. Their economy is thriving, and this community is rich in history.
The community has two notable people who have come from Owensville. The first notable person was Max Armstrong was a farm news and radio television broadcaster. The second notable person was Valeska Suratt who was an early fashion icon.
in 1925 Owensville, Indiana did have a disaster strike. A tornado struck the northwest side of the town and unfortunately besides damaging buildings, it also kiled nine people. The community came together and built the community back even better.
