The first log cabin was build in what is now known as Morris in 1834. Five years later, in 1839 Morris was officially established, and is now the largest city in Grundy County. From the day it was established Morris has continued to grow and flourish into what it has become today, while still honoring and remembering its culture and history. The Morris Downtown Commercial Historic District, which is located in downtown Morris, consists of 116 buildings that were all built before 1911 and is in the National Registry of Historic Places. The district even includes two government buildings, the Grundy Country Courthouse and the Morris Post Office. Residents of Grundy County also continue to celebrate Grundy County Corn festival each year. This 5 day celebration has been celebrated for 5 days each year since 1949. The festival celebrates the rich agricultural history in Grundy County.
