Pacific Junction, Iowa is a town in Mills County, Iowa. At the 2020 census the population was 96. Pacific Junction was established by the railroad in 1871. This town was to serve as the western terminus of the Burlington Missouri River Railroad, the eastern terminus of the Nebraska Burlington and Missouri river RR, and the station on the Kansas City, Council Bluffs, and St. Joseph Railroad. After many rough years of growth of Pacific Junction it was incorporated in 1882. Because of the violence of the Burlington Railroad Strike of 1888, the population peaked during the early 20th century with just over 700 people. Railroad through traffic remains almost constant although the town’s connections to the railroad have declined significantly since 1971.
In 2019, Pacific Junction was one of the towns that experienced major flooding due to the Midwestern Floods of 2019. January to May was the wettest time in the U.S. history records. There were multiple severe weather outbreaks during this time causing more rainfall. Along with severe weather comes damage. Lighting strikes causing fires in peoples houses and business buildings. SERVPRO has a great fire restoration team. Nearly 14 million people were affected by these floods and 3 people from Iowa died.
