Waleska was originally a farming settlement established over 50 years before it was officially incorporated in 1889. The city is located north of Canton along Reinhardt College Parkway.
Augustus M. Reinhardt, an Atlanta lawyer and son of one of the founders of Waleska, along with his brother-in-law and former Civil War Lieutenant-Colonel John J. A. Sharp, founded Reinhardt Academy in 1883 to help the poor children in Cherokee County.
