Guyton Cleanup and Restoration

HISTORY OF GUYTON:

Located roughly 45 minutes northwest of Savannah, is a small, quaint town known as Guyton.  Guyton  is believed to originally been founded somewhere around the 1790’s.  At the time Guyton was apart of the Central Georgia Railway, as were most of the surrounding towns.  The town was named after one of its prominent residents, Archibald Guyton, by the president of the Central Railroad around 1850.  Guyton was officially incorporated in 1887. According to residents, Guyton doesn’t look much different than it did in the early 1990’s. The town is extremely rich in history, but has so much charm.  Guyton is also known for their “annual tour of homes” at Christmas time which is a community-sponsored event that brings roughly three to four thousand visitors every year. Residents & visitors typically tour roughly a dozen homes, and most of the churches. Many homes in the historic district put lights on their doors during this time.
