Middleburg is a rural but wholesome little town in Clay County. Middleburg is know for its faith & ferry's. Until 1828, Asa Clark ran the first ferry on Black Creek. In the same year, Black Creek Methodist Church was founded by Isaac Boring. The Methodist Society met in their homes until the United Methodist Church was built in 1947. Black Creek was a huge asset during the second Seminole War. Fort Heileman was quickly built in 1836 to protect settlers at Garey's Ferry where it was a principle depot for the east coast of Florida.
