Fruit Cove is a census-designated place (CDP) in the larger community of Saint Johns in Northwest St. Johns County Florida. Switzerland is an unincorporated community inside Fruit Cove's boundaries on the eastern bank of the St. Johns River. The name Switzerland "derives from the late 18th century and early 19th century New Switzerland Plantation of Francis Philip Fatio, which was established between 1771, when Fatio arrived in Florida, and 1774, when Fatio moved from the New Castle Plantation to New Switzerland."

Marywood Retreat Center and Camp St. John for the Diocese of St. Augustine are located between SR 13 and the St. Johns River in Fruit Cove. Camp St. John offers camps for veterans and people with disabilities and has previously housed Cuban refugees. Marywood is a historic Riverfront property available for wedding and event rental.
Alpine Groves Park is a Public Park on the St. Johns River and has butterfly gardens, kayak launch and storage, nature trails, and 1800's historic structures. Veterans Park is on the east side of Fruit Cove and has youth programs, a skate park, and a dog park.
