History of Deltona, Florida
Timucuan Indians were the first inhabitants in this area of Florida. After Florida became a state, steamboat trips up the St. Johns River to Lake Monroe became a regular occurrence. However, the first people didn't settle in what is now Deltona until 1859. The first settlers were George Sauls, a secret agent for the Confederacy during the Civil War, and his family.
