The City of Cottage Hill is located in Escambia County in the State of Florida. Some similarly small cities that you can find close by are Pine Barren, Floridatown, Cantonment, Quintette, Farm Hill. The main reason it is an area to note, despite its size, is the history of Cottage Hill. In the early 1930s it was merely a set of hill-top houses, owned by the Levy family, that had rose gardens around the houses. There also were satsuma orchards, pear orchards, and even Kumquat and blueberry fields. In the early 1900’s the couple sold the land to propose the development of a school that would teach all the way up to middle school level. It was a success and grew slow and steady over the next 50 years- acquiring a lunchroom and more teaching rooms as well. Eventually, it was acquired by the Baptist Church and remains in that “ownership” today. Aside from the earliest of education facilities, the Post Office and store was located on Cottage Hill Road, on the east side of the railroad. Cottage Hill had several post masters, which seemed highly innovative in those times.
Being in the parameters of Northwest Pensacola, the seasonal challenges are prevalent in this historic area.
