Our youngest children attend Union School, commonly called The Little School on the Hill in The Quiet Corner. Each school year is full of fun but intensely educational activities for grades K-8. Part of the educational process includes professionals who arrive on campus to demonstrate their trades (beekeeping was a hit!) and field trips. The school purchased snowshoes and canoes for the staff and students to allow for outdoor learning and wintertime exploration with funds from a grant from the American Heart Association.

Many enjoy boating on Morey Pond, including boating through the tunnel underneath HWY 84 to get to the other portion of the pond. Fishing is often successful, partly due to the wide variety of fish present and the combination of plant life and felled and submerged trees providing natural habitat. The partially hidden boat launch is only accessible from the unpaved road opening up at 670 Buckley HWY. This area is part of the Nipmuck State Forest. Residents and tourists also spend countless hours in the Bigelow Hollow State Park. Hiking and picnicking often include leashed pets. The 300-acre Mashapaug Lake is suitable for scuba dive training. Its maximum depth is just under 20 feet.
