Connecticut's Fairfield County contains the town of Easton. Men and women from Fairfield arrived in Easton for the first time in 1757. A congregation known as the North Fairfield Society was founded in 1762, and it eventually changed its name to Easton. Weston, which at the time included the areas presently known as Easton, was established independently of Fairfield in 1787. Due to the challenging terrain along the Aspetuck River, the area took a long time to develop, and Weston and what is now Easton did not officially split until 1845. The largest water provider in the region, Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut, now owns half of the town's land.  Helen Keller, a pioneering deaf and blind campaigner, spent her final years in Easton. Since she passed away, numerous families have owned her house, which is still standing today. There is a middle school nearby that bears her name.  Other notable residents have included Dan Rather, the CBS News anchor, and Igor Sikorsky, founder of Sikorsky Aircraft.
