Originally home to three Native American cultural groups, Sabre Springs became a Spanish territory between the two large ranches of Rancho Peñasquitos and Rancho Bernardo. Back then, the area operated as a series of cattle and sheep ranches and was owned by many different owners from the 1800’s to the 1900’s. But after that, a large portion of what is now Sabre Springs was owned by the family of swimmer Florence Chadwick, and was later bought out by the Sabre Petroleum Corporation. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1980’s that residential construction began. Today, this wholesome family community hosts one of the top 100 elementary schools in the state, Creekside Elementary School, and provides two baseball diamonds for the recreation of all ages. And with top eateries like Nutmeg Bakery and Café, this neighborhood is warmly received by new parents and retirees alike.
