In 1916, Yuma Territorial Prison had an unexpected resident—Willie, a stray cat who became the prison's beloved mascot. Inmates and guards alike doted on him, and he roamed the grounds freely. When Willie died, the prisoners honored him with a headstone inside the prison walls. His story lives on at Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park, where he has a unique display.
