History of Oro Valley
Oro Valley is a city in Pima County, Arizona. It's known for its great weather, its beautiful views of the Santa Catalina Mountains and Redington Pass, and its great location between Tucson and Phoenix—but perhaps most importantly, Oro Valley is known for its people.
Oro Valley was founded in 1957 by a group of investors who wanted to create a place where they could raise their families in a safe environment close to both Tucson and Phoenix. Originally called "Catalina Foothills," the town was renamed "Oro Valley" when it was incorporated as a city in 1963. The name "Oro Valley" comes from the Spanish word for gold—which makes sense because many people who live here say Oro Valley is like living in a pot of gold!
Today, Oro Valley has grown into one of Arizona's most desirable places to live. It's home to over 60,000 people who love the beautiful mountain views that surround them every day, but also appreciate how close they are to everything else: shopping centers, restaurants & bars (including several breweries), parks & trails—and even hiking trails straight up the side of one of those mountains!
