Ligurta is Spanish for lizard and speaks to its desert climate. The area is home to the fringe-toed lizard, a species endemic to northwestern Mexico and Yuma County. Even though Ligurta is located in the Dome Valley south of the Gila River, it has an estimated elevation of 233 feet above sea level, making it a 'high elevation town' by local standards.

Circa 1880, Ligurta was established as a railroad station and service town on the famous Southern Pacific Sunset Route. In the days of steam-powered railroads, the locomotives had to have a water source about every 150 miles. This is a reason why so many small towns like Ligurta dot America's landscape. In those days, Ligurta got its water from the nearby Gila River and was a vital way station along the rail route.

Today, Ligurta has almost 2,500 residents, according to reports by the recent US Census. However, to SERVPRO, it is not the size of the town or the size of its population that is important. When the administrator for the Yuma office arrived I was explained their process, and she even went out of her way to help me guide through the process as the guys were setting up equipment.  On Friday my technician was changed to Roberto Corrales he was courteous and respectful and available when I had any doubts. Overall their service was surprising and reliable I would definitely call them and recommend them for a Water/ fire emergency.
