War Eagle is an unincorporated community in Benton County, Arkansas, United States. War Eagle Bridge is a one-lane steel truss bridge that crosses over War Eagle Creek. War Eagle Bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The historical buildings are the reason water damage restoration has increased over the years.
The community is named from War Eagle Mill, a local gristmill on War Eagle Creek. A post office called War Eagle Mills was established in 1876, the name was changed to War Eagle in 1894, and the post office closed in 1967. As the population increases, fire damage restoration services are more essential to the city.
The first fair was held in the living rooms of a few local ladies in 1954. The sign in books show attendance of 2,259 people. Blanche Elliott is credited with being the founder of the fair. By 1957 the fair had become a huge success. An organization was created to oversee the running of the fair. This organization is the Ozark Arts and Crafts Fair Association, a non-profit organization. As times have changed, so have some of the fair’s rules. One rule that continues to be enforced is the handmade rule. To showcase the colorful beauty of the Ozarks foliage, fall was chosen for the fair. The War Eagle Fair has become so successful there is no need for outside funding, including grants. All the profits from the fair are reinvested into running the fair. All extra monies are used to fund scholarships at local colleges and universities.
