The Tight Knit Community of Fountain Lake 

What is now the City of Fountain Lake began as a farming town in 1880. In 1919 a dam was built on a local creek and the property owner built a lodge next to it. Over the next ten years, this area became a popular swimming hole, picnic site, and recreational area. The area soon became known as Fountain Lake Resort. The lodge became the heart of the community, as it was host to many local events such as school dances, Red Cross swimming lessons, holiday parties, and the Miss Fountain Lake beauty pageant. A bridge was built into Fountain Lake over the south fork of the Saline River in 1928, which helped build the population. The South Fork Bridge is now in the National Register of Historic Places.
